Understanding Dual-Type Matchups
Learn how to analyze Pokémon type interactions when a Pokémon has two types.
Step 1: Choose an Attacking Type
Each Pokémon can have up to two types, but attacks are only 1 type.
Step 2: Identify Both Defending Types
Keep in mind the two types of the pokemon you are attacking before choosing your move. Start by identifying both defending types.
Step 3: Check Each Type's Weakness & Resistance
Look at how the attacking type interacts with each of the defending Pokémon's types separately.
Step 4: Multiply Effectiveness
If one type is weak (×2) and the other is resistant (×0.5), they cancel out. If both are weak, it's ×4!
Step 5: Consider Immunities
If a Pokémon type is immune to an attack, the entire effectiveness drops to ×0 regardless of the second type.
